Having a baby and starting a family is one of the most important and special times of your life. It is a special privilege to care for women during this time.

My aim is to provide a supportive, caring and safe environment with one-on-one care that is individualised and focused on a healthy mother and baby. Not only do I provide expert clinical skills in caring for your pregnancy and birth but also provide you with up to date, relevant information and knowledge that you can use to make informed and good decisions about your care. You can be confident you are in safe hands.

I have a special interest in Pelvic Floor Dysfunction which includes prolapse (vaginal walls and cervix fall down and sometimes to the outside of the vagina), urinary and faecal incontinence. Unfortunately this is a common condition that can have a significant impact on a women’s quality of life and is often not discussed, understood or taken into consideration during a pregnancy and birth. I believe it is important for women to be aware of this condition, understand what their individual risks might be so they can make informed decisions about their care.

Your questions answered

Is the COVID-19 vaccination safe for pregnant women?

Please see the link below for the latest information on the COVID-19 vaccination from The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RANZCOG):

What happens at a consultation?

Consultations provide an opportunity to monitor your health and the wellbeing of your pregnancy, provide information and plan for the safe arrival of your baby. It’s also an opportunity to get to know you, ensuring your care is personalised and that your preferences and values are understood.

At your initial consultation a full medical history will be taken to ensure all relevant medical conditions are taken into consideration that may impact on your pregnancy and birth. You will also have a physical examination – checking your blood pressure, examining your abdomen and doing an ultrasound of your baby.

Further tests and investigations will be discussed and organised as needed.

At subsequent visits regularly throughout your pregnancy I will be monitoring your health and the progress of your pregnancy. At each visit I will be performing an ultrasound scan of your baby to check heart rate, the fluid around your baby and ensuring baby is growing normally. I am always happy to answer any questions or discuss any concerns you may have.

Where does Dr Larwood deliver?

All private deliveries are at the Buderim Private Hospital which has excellent facilities and support for mothers, fathers and newborns.

What happens if Dr Larwood is not available for the birth?

I am present for the vast majority of my patient’s births. In the rare situation I am not able to attend there is always a trusted colleague available if needed. I work one weekend in six on call. Please contact my rooms if you have any questions or need further information about my on call arrangements.

When should I contact or come to hospital?

Be confident that there is always someone available to take your call and care for you at any time you are concerned or need to come to hospital.

I would like you to contact the hospital in the following circumstances:

  • If you are worried or have any concerns about your pregnancy or yourself
  • If you are experiencing pain or contractions
  • If there is any vaginal bleeding
  • If you think your waters have broken or there if fluid coming from your vagina
  • If you are concerned about your babies movements – they have reduced or stopped

You will be able to speak with a midwife who will discuss your situation with me and Kelvin will see you if needed at any time.

Never wait till the next day to call or be seen if you have concerns, you are never a bother to us and we are here to take care of you and your baby.
